More SANA

SANA began as a hundred-day creative challenge in 2024.
Apparently, he had no intention of stopping at 100.

How SANA began

At the start of 2024, I took on a hundred-day creative challenge. I wanted to get more comfortable drawing, maybe develop an illustration style, and see what might happen if I gave this strange little moon-headed character I saw one day room to speak.

I began with almost no rules. Within a few days, constraint took over: one pen, one sentence first, only enough of the world to tell the story. The less I decided in advance, the more clearly SANA’s world emerged.

A hundred days later, I had something I hadn’t expected: a character, a family, and a peculiar little universe that seemed to know its own rules.

I’m still finding out what happens there.

Scott Lambridis is a Bellingham writer and the author of the novel St. Ulphia’s Dead. He created SANA during a hundred-day drawing challenge in 2024.
