The most powerful art often walks a razor’s edge—serious and silly in the same breath. Kafka’s cockroach, Beckett’s clowns, Vonnegut’s shrug: “So it goes.” This workshop explores how absurdity and humor transform suffering into resonance. Drawing on literary examples and my own work, I’ll discuss how to balance tragedy with comedy, grief with wit, and why, as Calvino wrote, lightness isn’t frivolity but precision. For writers eager to approach heavy themes from unexpected angles and give readers laughter that lingers longer than tears.
